Basic 1K automotive paints are one-component products presented in a ready-to-use form. They are divided into two types: solids (monochromatic mixtures without visually bright inclusions) and metallics (distinguished from other coatings by the presence of metallized, finely dispersed particles of aluminum powder). While solids form a smooth matte shade, metallics can reflect light, giving the car’s finish a durable shine. The refractive effect of light rays helps to mask small surface imperfections, which is useful for personal use or when selling a car. The third option is a pearlescent tone that forms a shimmer similar to that found in seashells.

The main function of basic 1K automotive paint is to give the body decorative qualities. The paint is not inherently atmospheric stability, so it is used in combination with a clear protective lacquer. It is suitable for primed surfaces that have been pre-leveled.

The application is carried out using a spray gun. The 3-layer scheme is often chosen: the first couple of layers should completely cover the surface, and the third one is necessary to adjust the thickness of the application (it is done by short-term drop spraying). It is necessary to choose the right distance for painting: on average, it is about 20 cm. For example, if using a basecoat with metallic and applying it to the body part from a distance of 10-15 cm, a strong pressure will place the aluminum powder particles more tightly, making the color intensity of the finish coat darker. A distance of 40 cm from the nozzle to the vehicle will give the final color.
