Initially, Cromax® was introduced under the DuPont Refinish brand and gained wide recognition in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. In September 2013, it was rebranded as Cromax®.

Installation of the first paint line at the General Motors plant and implementation of the spray painting system, which reduced painting time from several weeks to six hours.
1924
Development of the nitrocellulose enamel Duco®, which replaced oil-based paints.
1929
Release of the alkyd enamel Dulux®, improved durability of coloring, expansion of the color palette.
1935
Introduction of the first paint mixer for paint preparation.
1956
Appearance of the acrylic enamel Lucite® – the world’s first thermoplastic acrylic.
1970
Appearance of the polyurethane enamel Imron® for painting commercial vehicles – it had increased durability and resistance to chemical exposure.

Launch of the Centari® mixing system.
1988
The European headquarters of DuPont Refinish opened in Mechelen, Belgium.
1992
Presentation of the waterborne basecoat Cromax® in California, USA.
1995
Development of the Low Emission (LE) product line with low levels of harmful emissions.

Release of waterborne basecoat Cromax® with significant reduction in volatile organic compound emissions.

Launch of Imron® Fleet Line product line with 23 concentrated PowerTints® pigments, designed for commercial vehicle painting.

Introduction of Low Emission (LE) product line that meets environmental safety requirements.

Launch of the professional basecoat Cromax® Pro Basecoat, characterized by the best performance indicators when used and applied.

Creation of the independent company Axalta Coating Systems based on DuPont Performance Coatings.
